This workshop aims to inspire young researchers to study neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) by offering training in genomics and molecular tools, encouraging them to present unpublished work, and fostering collaboration to address urgent public health challenges in the region.
Topics
Selection of diagnostic motifs, primer/probe design, PCR optimization, and troubleshooting; DNA sequencing, the use of bioinformatics tools for raw data processing; Constructing and evaluating phylogenetic trees to infer evolutionary relationships and analyze genetic diversity.
Participants
The workshop targets honors students, recent graduates, postgraduates, early-career researchers in medical, allied health, veterinary, or life sciences, and technical officers in permanent cadres of local universities. Basic lab safety, molecular biology knowledge, and computer literacy are mandatory.
Registration fee
Registration fee for foreign participants is €50, and for local participants it is LKR 5,000. This will cover course materials, consumables, and refreshments during the workshop
Funding
A limited number of grants covering registration fee, local hospitality and accommodation during the course will be provided to selected participants who are ICGEB Member states nationals, residing outside of Sri Lanka. Participants are expected to cover their own travel and airport transfer costs.
NOTABENE: While applying to attend this event, you will be also asked to upload on the system 1) An abstract (300 word) of a study conducted on neglected tropical zoonoses and 2) A justification statement explaining the need for financial support to attend the meeting. These attachments are COMPULSORY if you apply for financial support. It is your responsibility to ensure your application is completed before the deadline indicated.
