Thank you for Supporting our Research

Donations to the ICGEB help to develop life saving treatments, diagnostic tools and innovative therapies through research lines that aim to contribute to the Sustainable Development Agenda. Support our international teams of scientist and cutting-edge research in Trieste, New Delhi and Cape Town, to advance medical, plant and industrial biotechnology.

Our research teams work on Infectious Diseases (dengue, chikungunya, Zika, HIV/AIDS, and vaccine design for tuberculosis; African trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis and helminthic infections, such as bilharzia and chronic diseases: allergic asthma, colitis and malaria.

Research into addressing cardiovascular disorders, immunisation against breast cancer and dengue virus infection; human hereditary mutations (Crigler-Najjar Syndrome, haemophilias, cystic fibrosis and spinal muscular atrophy) and neurodegeneration (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, Alzheimer’s and motor neuron disease) is championed by teams working in Non-Communicable Diseases. These groups also work on mechanisms of cancer development, such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, for novel therapeutics. In Medical Biotechnology researchers work to produce biosimilar drugs to increase know-how and capabilities of pharmaceutical industries in Member States; recombinant diagnostics (for HCV, HBV, HIV, dengue viruses, celiac disease), and vaccines against dengue and TB infection.

Our scientists are developing biofuels with novel enzymes and algal oils and investigate metabolic models of bacteria and marine cyanobacteria to produce biofuel candidate molecules for Industrial Biotechnology. Teams working on Plant Biology and Biotechnology strive for crop improvement in rice and other food plants (nutritional value of cereals, legumes, tomatoes); cotton (virus resistance and fibre quality) and expressing xylanase in tobacco plants for biofuel production.

Training programmes support young scientists throughout the world. You can contribute to the success of young researchers by sponsoring FellowshipsGrants or participation in international scientific Meetings.

Thank you for making your contribution by selecting one of the options below or contact us at grants@icgeb.org, phone +39 040 375 7365/7304, for any information or support. We shall be pleased to help.

5 per mille (for taxpayers in Italy)

Did you know you can allocate 5/1000 (“5 per mille”) of your tax returns to the ICGEB?

To donate your “5 per mille” to the ICGEB and help us support young researchers and their study of infectious diseases, oncology, genetic, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, sign in the appropriate space: “Funding for Scientific Research and University” on your income tax return and indicate our tax number: 90031700322
