CDH26: a novel cadherin involved in development and diseases

Cadherins are relevant glycoproteins involved in cell-cell adhesion and morphogenetic movements during development and played a key role in the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) during migration and metastasis. CDH26 is a novel cadherin that belongs to an isolated group of classical cadherin and is up regulated in eosinophilic esophagitis patients in asthma psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis patients. Despite these reports, the function of this novel cadherin in cell adhesion and development are largely unknown. In this seminar we will show the expression pattern and role of Xenopus laevis CDH26 in development of early Xenopus embryos.
