9 June 2023: Minister Anna Maria Bernini, Italian Minister of University and Research was hosted by ICGEB together with members of the scientific community on the occasion of her visit to the Area Science Park in Trieste.
At the ICGEB, Dr. Lawrence Banks, Director-General welcomed the Minister where she visited the Tumor Virology, Bacteriology, and Functional Cell Biology laboratories, and interacted with the Group Leaders, staff, and guests. Dr. Banks stated: “Delighted to host Minister Bernini and senior members of the Trieste and FVG Science System at ICGEB. It is through science and the key elements of collaboration, cooperation and diplomacy that we can aim to solve the many crises the world is currently facing.“
President Caterina Petrillo, Area Science Park, Trieste coordinated the visit by the Italian Minister, involving the entire scientific community as important players in Italy’s innovation and diplomacy policies.
“We are very pleased that the Minister of University and Research accepted the invitation to visit our institution and meet with representatives of the realities of the Science and Innovation System of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region,” commented President Caterina Petrillo.
“Area Science Park is a crossroads of global, but above all Italian, skills, intelligences and competences. It is a place where our ability to know how to do well is concentrated. Around this area our scientific community grows and is strengthened. A community that shows us every day more and more how powerful academic cooperation can be both for Italy’s innovation and as a diplomatic tool with international partners.” These were the words of the Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini, who visited Area Science Park on 9 June 2023.
President Petrillo, Area Director General Anna Sirica, the Regional Councillor for Research, Alessia Rosolen, the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Di Piazza, the Prefect, Pietro Signoriello, and representatives of the scientific and technological institutions of SiS FVG, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Science and Innovation System joined the Minister during the visit to the ICGEB.
