ICGEB Selected for EDCTP3 Stakeholders’ Group, Amplifying Its Role in Shaping Global Health Research.
ICGEB has been appointed to the Global Health EDCTP3 Stakeholders’ Group, marking a significant step in strengthening its contribution to international health research and innovation. The selection follows a highly competitive process, with the EDCTP3 Governing Board reviewing 70 applications from organisations worldwide.
Dr. Lawrence Banks, ICGEB Director-General, and Elena Benedetti, Head, Technology Transfer, Cooperation & Innovation, are also serving on the advisory board.
In total, 32 organisations from Africa, Europe, and across the globe have been chosen as members, alongside three invited observers. This new cohort represents the second cycle of the Stakeholders’ Group, building on the strong foundations established by its predecessors, and ICGEB now joins this influential platform at a pivotal moment for global health.
A strategic voice in a diverse global network
The newly formed group reflects a carefully balanced composition: 13 organisations with a presence in Africa, 8 in Europe, and 11 with an international footprint. ICGEB’s inclusion underscores its global reach and long-standing commitment to advancing scientific research for health and development.
In shaping this diverse body, the Governing Board prioritised geographic representation, thematic breadth, and sector diversity. Notably, several high-ranking European research institutions and pharmaceutical companies were placed on a reserve list to ensure that umbrella organisations and networks – such as ICGEB – could represent broader scientific communities and perspectives.
Driving impact through expertise and collaboration
As a member of the Stakeholders’ Group, ICGEB will play an active role in advising on the strategic direction of the EDCTP3 programme. By contributing its scientific expertise and global perspective, ICGEB will help shape key initiatives and ensure they are firmly grounded in the evolving landscape of global health.
The Group’s collective input will inform programme decisions and accelerate progress toward shared objectives – reinforcing ICGEB’s mission to promote sustainable and impactful research that addresses pressing health challenges worldwide.
With this appointment, ICGEB further consolidates its position as a key player in international scientific cooperation, driving forward innovation and collaboration where it matters most.
