The ICGEB recently carried out an official visit to Morocco (6–9 April 2026), led by Director-General Dr. Lawrence Banks and accompanied by Prof. Vittorio Venturi, who also holds a position at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).
The visit was hosted by the Moroccan National Centre for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST) in Rabat. ICGEB extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Jamila El Alami, Director of CNRST and ICGEB Liaison Officer, and to Dr. Bahia Rached for the excellent organisation and warm hospitality.
During the mission, the delegation engaged with leading national research institutions, including CNRST, INRAE, and the Mohammed VI Center for Research and Innovation. These meetings provided an opportunity to strengthen dialogue around shared scientific priorities and explore new avenues for collaboration.
A key highlight of the visit was the meeting with Morocco’s newly appointed ICGEB Governor, Prof. Youns Bjijou, Deputy Director of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Health Sciences. The discussion reaffirmed Morocco’s active role within the ICGEB network and its commitment to advancing research and innovation.
Overall, the visit underscored the strong momentum of scientific cooperation between ICGEB and Moroccan institutions. It laid the groundwork for enhanced collaboration through increased scientific exchange, joint initiatives, and deeper engagement across the region.
