From Capacity Building in Life Sciences to Strategic Impact In East Africa

Launched in November 2021, the BIOTECHNET project aims to enhance the  biotechnology know-how in the Horn of Africa and the scientific competencies of researchers and research institutions in East Africa. The Biotechnet Event “From Capacity Building in Life Sciences to Strategic Impact In East Africa”, organised by the Bio and Emerging Technology Institute (BETin) in partnership with the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) will review the activities carried out over the past four years and present the results achieved by the beneficiaries, while highlighting their impact on local research and the strategic importance of life sciences for national development and economy. It will also launch the new phase of the Biotechnet project (2026–2029), outlining its funding and training opportunities for researchers in the Horn of Africa, strengthening collaboration in the life sciences among Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, and Uganda, building on the achievements of the first phase. The event is designed to ensure a smooth transition between the two phases of the project and enable networking between the researchers and representatives of Life Sciences in East Africa.
