July 2023: the ICGEB Scientific Committee, headed by the Director-General, was back at the China Medical City in Taizhou this month, location of the burgeoning ICGEB Regional Research Centre (RRC).
Prof. Mariano Garcia-Blanco, Special Advisor to the DG (and former member of the ICGEB Council of Scientific Advisers), and Dr. Alessandro Marcello, Group Leader, Molecular Virology lab, together with Dr. Lawrence Banks visited the laboratories and met staff and students at the RRC throughout the week; also holding a site visit with the Group Leaders presenting their latest research and work of their laboratories.
The delegation was in attendance at the opening ceremony of the Workshop organised by Prof. Yili Yang, RRC Director, entitled “Frontiers in Vaccine Technologies and Applications” on Monday, 10 July, and provided the opportunity to discuss prosepective vaccine Research and Development, international cooperation, and strategies for improving vaccines.
On the occasion of the visit, Lawrence Banks met with the Mayor of Taizhou, Wan Wenhua, who had visited ICGEB Headquarters in Trieste earlier this year.
The delegation also visited Biopharmaceutical companies and institutes within the China Medical City and subsequently, in Beijing, including Sinovac and the China National Center for Biotechnology Development CNCBD.
