The role of microbiome in rice plant health

The bilateral programme between the ICGEB Trieste Bacteriology Group is undertaken together with the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology (IMBT) of the Vietnam National University (VNU) and is a three-year project envisaged to study the role of the plant microbiome in rice health.

The overall goal of the programme is to understand the role of the microbiome in the establishment of two bacterial diseases in rice; one found in Italy and the other, found in Vietnam. The long-term objective is to develop plant probiotics to help fight these diseases in a more sustainable way.
