ICGEB is honoured to have been announced as a finalist for the South African National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF)-South32 Science Diplomacy Award, championing scientific diplomacy through its global Fellowship and Training Programme.
This programme utilises science to bring countries together in a unique manner to solve major global challenges.
The National Science and Technology Forum NSTF of South Africa has partnered with the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa (SDCfA) initiative, managed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on behalf of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), since 2023 for a new award for Science Diplomacy for Africa.
According to the NSTF, the award recognises an outstanding contribution to science, engineering and technology (SET) and innovation by an individual or a team in South Africa which has led to impactful solutions and/or contributions through science diplomacy between and among countries for the benefit of South Africa and Africa.
Amongst the five finalists in this catergory, ICGEB is acknowledged for being the world’s leading intergovernmental organisation for research, training and technology transfer in the field of life sciences and biotechnology, by championing scientific diplomacy through its global fellowship and training programme.
Through international cooperation and collaboration, the efforts in training and human capacity development through ICGEB’s Fellowship Programme have had a significant impact in South Africa and across the African Continent, and remain one of the organisation’s key and impactful instruments of action.
The NSTF Awards Gala Event will take place on 31 July 2025, where all finalists will be honoured in their respective categories and the winners announced.
