Dr. Dimitar Efremov, Group Leader of the Molecular Hematology lab at ICGEB Trieste, has been awarded a grant by CLL Global.
The Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Global Research Foundation has awarded a grant to Dr. Efremov to support the project to dissect the interplay between genetic lesions and the tumour microenvironment in Richter Transformation.
Group Leader of Molecular Hematology at ICGEB Trieste since 2015, the lab has most recently focused on studying Richter transformation, a rare, aggressive complication in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) that evolves into a fast-growing, high-grade lymphoma, most commonly diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
The CLL Global Research Foundation represents a partnership between patients, their families, physicians, and others interested in advancing the fight against CLL. It is a non-profit organization located in Houston, TX, USA, dedicated to eliminating chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) as a health threat by accelerating research and improving patient treatments. Funding is awarded to patient-oriented, innovative research, including pioneering clinical trials and international collaborative studies to advance CLL therapy.
Dr. Efremov will conduct future work on this project at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Skopje, North Macedonia.
