28-30 April 2025: Dr. Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary, DBT, Government of India, gives the inaugural address at the 31st session of the Council of Scientific Advisers of the ICGEB.
Comprising 15 eminent scientists from as many nations, including the USA, China, South Africa, India, and the UK, the ICGEB Council of Scientific Advisers (CSA) is in session at ICGEB New Delhi to review the scientific research activity underway at the New Delhi Component.
Delivering the inaugural speech “Science and Technology for Society”, Dr. Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, presented the country’s Bioeconomy BioE3 goals that champion the integration of the academic, research, and industrial sectors, focusing on the strengths of the country to address global challenges, including climate change.
Over the next two days, 22 Group Leaders heading the labs in Delhi will present an overview of their activities and achievements over the last 3 years and the objectives for future research. The DBT strongly supports the Component’s activities, which deliver on national priority areas for agriculture, health, and the environment.
The Council members represent scientific excellence in their fields and reflect a geographical distribution of expertise. Each ICGEB host government also appoints a member to serve on the Council.
ICGEB PhD and Postdoctoral fellows from the laboratories will engage directly with CSA members to discuss their projects during a poster session. Findings from the session will be reported to the Board of Governors to be held in Delhi in May, by Dr. Shekhar Mande, member of the Council appointed by the Government of India.
