Brief Bio:
“I am passionate about developing sustainable biotechnology-based solutions that address the problem of climate change. I founded a biotech start-up, OmegaChea, when I was pursuing my PhD at Iowa State University, Ames, and raised seed funding from the government to commercialize my idea. The start-up did not survive however I learnt a lot of valuable lessons that led me to pursue cheaper feedstocks (such as methane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide instead of sugars) for making fuels and chemicals. I worked for a methane to fuel conversion company, Intrexon, in San Francisco from 2017-2018. Currently, I work at LanzaTech (since 2018), Chicago, which is leading the way in gas fermentation. My core expertise is in protein engineering, metabolic and strain engineering. Recently, I have been excited about leveraging Artificial Intelligence to enhance Design, Build, Test and Learn cycles. In my talk at ICGEB, I will be sharing LanzaTech’s journey from lab scale to commercial reality, and how engineering biology plays a pivotal role in LanzaTech’s gas fermentation technology.”
