The global demand for reducing pesticide residues in agricultural produce has increased significantly. Biopesticides and biological control agents (BCAs) agents, when used strategically alongside conventional synthetic pesticides, offer an effective solution for managing agricultural pests while minimizing pesticide residues. However, the widespread adoption of these products is hindered by an unfavorable regulatory environment and inconsistent registration requirements across different regions. To address these challenges, Tanzania has been actively involved in developing harmonized guidelines for the registration of biopesticides and BCAs in the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) regions. For these guidelines to be implemented effectively, they need to be integrated into national regulatory frameworks, and relevant training must be provided. This meeting aims to build the capacity of users, regulators, researchers, academia, and policymakers in the registration and proper use of biopesticides and BCAs. The agenda includes both theoretical and practical sessions on regulation, utilizing, among others the Food and Agriculture Organization toolkit for registration of biopesticides and BCAs and the EAC and SADC guidelines for biopesticide registration.

Participants
Participants will include representatives from the biopesticides industry, institutions conducting efficacy trials, regulatory authorities, policymakers, academia, and research institutes. Additionally, MSc and PhD students pursuing studies in biopesticides, BCAS, and related fields are encouraged to attend. Priority will be given to female students pursuing natural sciences.
Registration fees of USD 55 will be charged for all non-supported participants
Funding
A limited number of grants covering accommodation on a shared room basis, living allowances, local transportation, meeting stationary, IT and brochures will be provided for students and early career trainees who are nationals of ICGEB Member States residing outside of Tanzania.
