ICGEB has been providing excellent opportunities to the international scientific community for direct interaction with leaders of internationally recognised science since 1988. In March this year, Florencia Paoloni, formerly of IILA, came on board as Head of the Unit.
The Meetings and Courses Programme is being remodeled to make the submission process more flexible and streamlined. It has updated its Terms of Reference and prepared a new call for 2023 with several new features. Florencia Paoloni, Head, Meetings & Courses (M&C) from March 2022, gives us a preview of what’s new and what to expect from next year.
“During 2023 we’ll have 16 events in 14 Member States, and we are already preparing the new call for proposal for events to be held in 2024,” says Florencia. “In this new call, the biggest change that proponents will find is the type of ICGEB events for which they can apply – in essence, events with or without consumables.”
The Terms of reference have also been updated, with eligible and non-eligible costs now much more detailed. All these changes, she explained, are in response to the feedback received over time from different meeting organisers.

The M&C Programme awards funds to organise events on cutting-edge topics in the field of Life Sciences aimed at facilitating the interaction between internationally renowned scientists and young researchers from Member States. The main scope of the selected events is to promote the exchange of knowledge, networking and to offer the opportunity to young scientists from ICGEB Member States to attend world class international events through additional sponsorship.
In addition to this, the M&C Unit organises the Arturo Falaschi Conferences, a series of major international meetings in the fields of Life Sciences, launched in 2012. In September 2023 the 7th AF Conference “1st biennal Conference on TDP-43 function and dysfunction in disease” will take place in Trieste and Florencia and her team will be delighted to have you here.
