Theatre performance presented by ICGEB for GO!2025
The heart rarely develops tumours, even though it has a constant blood flow. How can this evidence be used to invent a new cancer therapy?
Researchers collaborating on a new cancer therapy using wearable robots that mimic the heartbeat bring their experiences to the stage. A project that blends passion and scientific expertise with the ability to describe and transmit that passion through words, gestures, and music.
With partners: University of Trieste, Dept. of Medical, Surgical and Health Sciences (DSM), the University of Siena, Vicino/Lontano Festival, and ISISS D’Annunzio, Max Fabiani Gorizia, ICGEB presents five shows, funded by the Autonomous Region of FVG for GO!2025 in four cities between May and October 2025.

The Actors
Domenico Prattichizzo, is an Engineer and Professor of Robotics and Human-Machine Interaction at the University of Siena, where he directs the SIRSLab. He is also a Senior Scientist at the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa. His research focuses on wearable robotic technologies fto improve the quality of life. Co-author of the book “Il Corpo Artificiale”, by Raffello Cortina Editor, he is co-founder of the start-ups WEART and EXISTO.
Serena Zacchigna is a medical doctor and head of the Cardiovascular Biology Laboratory at the ICGEB in Trieste, as well as Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Trieste. An expert in cardiovascular disease research, she studies the development of new therapies capable of regenerating the heart and blood vessels. She contributes to numerous scientific outreach initiatives.
Sarita Massai, born in Siena, writer and musician, medievalist and teacher, her first book “La selva del lago”, Protagon ed, is a historical reconstruction of an ancient forest around Siena. She has also written numerous historical books on Sienese families. In 2019, she contributed to the publication of “Una tazzina di caffè”, a comic/theatre drama that arose from the encounter with the Sienese prisoners of “Santo Spirito”. The script went on to win the Tuscan competition among the various prisons in the bidding. In 2019, she published “Oltre la soglia” (Beyond the Threshold), put forward for the Premio Napoli.
Alessandra Cotoloni lives and works in Siena and is a writer who has always been passionate about reading and writing. She has published ten novels, one of which was selected for the Premio Strega 2019, and two poetry collections, the last of which, “Trame itineranti”, was selected for the “Premio Strega Poesia” in 2023.
