Workshop “Strengthening Advanced Biotechnologies in Agricultural Research in East and Central Africa through Regional Research Centres”

The ICGEB aims at strengthening the research capability of its Members through a comprehensive training programme and approach to promoting biotechnology internationally. The active participation of ICGEB Member States nationals in the ICGEB Meetings and Courses is therefore highly encouraged.

The workshop will cover topics on advancements in Agricultural research; new and emerging technologies for global security as well as challenges facing agricultural development in the region. Regional Needs assessments and technology developments for the proposed RRC and best practices by established RRC will also be discussed.

Topics

Priorities and advancements in agricultural research and development in East and Central Africa; Impacts of Regional Research Centres in the wake of COVID 19 Pandemic; Regulatory, quality assurance, and governance framework for Regional Research Centres; Multisectoral approach in the realization of goals of Regional Research Centres; Public Sector-Private Sector-Industry-Academia linkages for the enhancement of regional research centres; New and emerging technologies for global security; Regional needs assessments and technology development for RRC; Best Practice in establishing RRC of global repute; Funding, investments and sustainability of a RRC in Kenya.

Participants

The stakeholders invited include leading Agricultural biologists from ICGEB members states (Nigeria, Morocco, Ethiopia and Burundi) and East Africa Region, Policy makers from Kenya and East Africa Region, representatives from identified funding agencies, representative from Established RRC and Early career scientist in Kenya.

Funding

The available funding from ICGEB will be used to partially cover accommodation and meals for participants and local transport. International and regional participants will take care of their own transportation. However, institutions that are willing to fully fund and facilitate their participants will be encouraged to do so and declare the same by a set deadline.
