South African delegation headed by Min. Nzimande visits ICGEB

The South African Minister for Education, Science and Innovation visits ICGEB Trieste.

In association with the G20 Ministerial Meetings on the Digital Economy and Research being held in Trieste on 5 and 6 August 2021, the ICGEB was honored to host a delegation headed by the Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation of South Africa, H.E. Min. Bonginkosi E. Nzimande.

Trieste, 7 August 2021 – Minister Nzimande, South Africa, together with a delegation comprising Dr. Mmboneni Muofhe, Deputy Director General for Technology and Innovation, Department of Science and Innovation, Government of South Africa, and Prof. Derrick Swarz, Advisor to the Minister visited ICGEB Trieste.

Following a presentation by Dr. Lawrence Banks, ICGEB Director-General, Minister Nzimande confirmed the very important relationship with ICGEB, to which the Government of South Africa is fully committed. He emphasised the importance of building science and technology capacity potential for all, and the “absolute importance of scientific collaboration – a lesson learnt from Covid-19.”

Dr. Banks confirmed that ICGEB’s evolving and expanding capabilities in South Africa, and its almost 50 laboratories, together with those Italy and India are fully committed to working on renewable energy, adapting agriculture due to climate change developments to improve sustainability, and quality education.
