Entitled ‘Promoting Peaceful Applications of Biology to Mitigate Biological Risks,’ the side event, with Alessandro Marcello, Molecular Virology Group Leader, took place in Geneva at the Palais des Nations on December 12, 2023.
The event featured briefings from scientists and diplomats on ongoing initiatives, including collaborations with ICGEB and advancements in implementing Article X, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.
Biological science and technology are in continuous evolution accompanied with novel biosafety and biosecurity risks that need to be carefully monitored. The objectives of Article X of the BWC are perfectly aligned with the ICGEB mandate to promote scientific research excellence, training, and biotechnology transfer for sustainable development.
From March 4-8, 2024, ICGEB Trieste will be hosting the ‘Virus Detection and Biosecurity’ and ‘Science Diplomacy’ Course – a collaborative effort by ICGEB, TWAS, IAP, and BWC. Applications are now being accepted. Learn more here.
