Serena Zacchigna, Cardiovascular Biology Group Leader, ICGEB Trieste received the prize from the “Fondazione Roche” on behalf of Simone Vodret, member of the team in acknowledgement of research and innovation as the drivers of development in Italy and the key to improve quality of life.
The President of the Roche Foundation, Mariapia Garavaglia led the presentations in Milan on 5 March, which included Senator Elena Cattaneo, professor and researcher and the University of Milan and high officials from the Roche and Gimbe Foundations.
Serena Zacchigna accepted the award on behalf of the Group, as recipient of one of the twelve prizes awarded for scientific research projects aimed at personalised approaches in medical therapy in the fields of oncology, oncological hematology, respiratory diseases, rheumatology, neuroscience, hereditary coagulopathy disorders and doctor-patient relations.
The specific project awarded relates to the development of innovative approaches to improve both diagnosis and prognosis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a common and severe lung disease. This project is performed in collaboration with the Pneumology Department of the University Hospital of Trieste, led by Marco Confalonieri and with the SYRMEP beamline of ELETTRA, coordinated by Giuliana Tromba.
