Director ICGEB New Delhi leads World Environment Day celebrations

Prof. Ramesh V. Sonti on combating climate change at CSIR-NBRI.

Prof. Ramesh V. Sonti, Director, ICGEB New Delhi component, was the Chief Guest at the World Environment Day event, jointly organised by the CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI), Lucknow, India & International Society for Environmental Botanists (ISEB-Lucknow). Prof. Sonti talked about climate change mitigation strategies. His talk, titled ‘Combating Climate Change Crisis’, emphasised urgent sustainable solutions.

Dr. P. V. Sane, former Director, CSIR-NBRI graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. The event was also attended by Dr A. K. Shasany, Director, CSIR-NBRI.

CSIR-NBRI undertakes basic and applied research on various aspects of plant sciences including genetic improvement with major focus on under-exploited and non-traditional plants in the country.

In his latest article “Biotechnology for Greener Pastures”, published in Science India, Dr. Neel Sarovar Bhavesh, Group Leader, Transcription Regulation at ICGEB New Delhi, writes “providing a sustainable environment, nutritious food, green energy and quality healthcare for all citizens in an affortable manner is key”.
