Science & the City

Trieste Science & the City is a series of public conferences on hot topics in Science; a highly popular communications model launched and developed by the ICGEB, currently at its 5th edition, and for the first time, also being taken to the international public engagement arena. The events take place in a theatre in the centre of town and are open to the general public. Admission is free. The panel comprises special guests who are experts in their respective field in the Life Sciences. Topics open to debate span from GMOs to Frontier Genetics. The events in Trieste, are usually in Italian with simultaneous translation in English.

The series was launched in 2013, and progressively gained notoriety as the 3rd and 4th editions were filmed live by the Rai Italian national television. Events were also the subject of a broadcast on Rai radio, thereby reaching a vast audience world-wide and constituting a model that champions science communication; an activity integral to the mission of the ICGEB. Programmes and events can be downloaded for viewing here.
