The 17th Meeting of the UN Inter-Agency Committee on Bioethics (UNIACB), hosted by UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from 13-14 June 2018, identified, in particular, two topics of common interest on the possible implications of ethics: genome editing and artificial intelligence.
Prior to their next meeting, the Members of the UNIACB – will be mapping their respective organisations’ activities and publications in these fields. Serena Zacchigna, Cardiovascular Biology Group Leader in Trieste, the UNIACB Representative for ICGEB will be organising a Webinar on Gene Editing in October this year, and the second JRC-ICGEB Joint Workshop on the scientific, ethical and societal challenges imposed by the evolution of genome editing technologies in 2019. Presentations from the first workshop held in 2016 are available on Podcast on the ICGEB’s iTunes channel.
Since 2003, the UNIACB has been serving as a key inter-agency mechanism for sharing information between and among intergovernmental organizations dealing with issues related to bioethics, thus fostering better cooperation and coordination.
