The Director-General (DG), Lawrence Banks headed a delegation from ICGEB to Member State Uruguay from 23-25 March, 2023.
The mission of the DG to Uruguay commenced with a visit with the Italian Ambassador in Montevideo, H. E. Giovanni Battista Iannuzzi.
Dr. Banks also met with Dr. Rafael Radi, member of the Uruguay National Academy of Sciences, and former member of the ICGEB Council of Scientific Advisors. He presented the opportunities provided by ICGEB to Uruguayan scientists (Fellowships, CRP grants and Meetings and Courses) at the Uruguayan Basic Sciences Development Program (PEDEClBA), with National authorities in attendance. The event was moderated by Dr. Sonia Rodriguez Giordano, ICGEB Appointed Governor for Uruguay and Faculty Member at the University of the Republic.
The delegation visited the Institut Pasteur in Montevideo, met with Dr. Ana Denicola of the Physical Biochemistry Lab, at the University of the Republic, and toured the Laboratory of Basic Oncology and Molecular Medicine (LOBMM).
On 25 March, the Director-General met with Ms. Ana Vasquez, Head of Cooperation and Mr. Marcos Algorta, Coordinator-General, at the Uruguayan National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) with whom he signed a Collaboration Agreement.
