Measuring the impact of our research through publications in top, international scientific journals, we take a brief look at some of ICGEB’s more recent research articles published in the last quarter of 2022.
Dr. Asif Mohmmed and team from the Parasite Cell Biology lab conduct research efforts towards an in-depth understanding of the cell biology of the parasite and the development of a new antimalarial.
Cell Reports: The Group recently published a manuscript describing the functional role of a novel phospholipase in the synthesis of new membranes in the malaria parasite, and also identified hit compounds targeting this enzyme. The hit compounds are now being further developed into lead candidates under the ICGEB-Flagship project.

PloS Pathogens: In the field of infectious diseases, Dr. Asif Mohmmed and team have also published a manuscript describing the dual role of HtrA2 protease both in parasite survival and cellular-stress-induced apoptosis-like cell-death.
