Regulation of Immune Cell trafficking by adhesion signaling

Integrins are a family of heterodimeric cell adhesion molecules with noncovalently associated α and β subunits that mediate cell-cell, cell-matrix and cell-pathogen interactions. α4 and β2 integrins are lymphocyte homing receptors, which have been implicated in many inflammatory diseases. The biological functions of integrins rely on their interaction with ligands and the associated signaling. Understanding the mechanism of integrin-ligand interaction and integrin signaling is critical for finding new therapeutics for the related diseases. In this talk, Dr. Chen will introduce some of their findings on the roles of integrin signaling in controlling lymphocyte homing tissue-specificity and efficiency.

Dr. JianFeng Chen received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Institute of Biochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. After 5 years postdoc training in Timothy A. Springer lab at Harvard Medical School, he joined Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a professor. His lab is interested in exploring the mechanism and biological function of integrin-ligand interaction and its bidirectional signal transduction across plasma membrane and developing new therapeutics for inflammatory diseases and cancer.

Our results reveal the contribution of mechanical forces on the regulation of nucleus size.
