Italian Court of Auditors leaves ICGEB a stronger, more international Organisation

11 May, 2023: after a nine-year mandate as External Auditor of the ICGEB, Mr. Giovanni Coppola, President of the Chamber of European and International Affairs, Italian Court of Auditors, presented a final report to the ICGEB Board of Governors in Cape Town, South Africa.

“Acting as External Auditor of the ICGEB from 2014 to 2023,” Mr. Coppola commented “we leave ICGEB a stronger, more international Organisation.” The Corte dei Conti, the Italian Republic’s Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) accompanied ICGEB through its journey to join the Organisations of the United Nations System in adopting the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), and in the implementation of a new enterprise software to manage business operations (SAP ERP).

The audit report and related certifications of the Financial Statements of the ICGEB have been issued regularly each year, while unified accounting procedures have been automated and harmonised across the Components.

Earlier this year, the ICGEB met with the External Auditors at the Corte dei Conti in Rome, Italy to finalise all aspects of nine years of fruitful and positive cooperation. The delegation, comprising Dr. Lawrence Banks, Director-General, Dr. Maria Luisa Fichera, Chief Legal and Administration , and Ms. Raffaella Agosti, Personal Assistant to the Director General, met with Dr. Giovanni Coppola, President of the Audit Chamber for European and International Affairs, Dr. Mauro Orefice, President of the Audit Chamber on the performance of the Central Administrations – Head of the International Affairs Office, Amb. Michele Cosentino, Counsellor of the Audit Chamber for European and International Affairs, Dr. Carlo Mancinelli, Counsellor Audit Chamber for European and International Affairs, and Dr. Giovanni Comite, Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Corte dei Conti.
