ICGEB & University of Venda sign MoU

Durban, August 31st 2022 – One of the biggest highlights of the 2022 BIO Africa Convention was the signing of the official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the ICGEB and the University of Venda (UNIVEN).

ICGEB Director-General, Dr Lawrence Banks and UNIVEN Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr Ndanduleni Bernard Nthambeleni celebrated the beginning of this official partnership, which will build new and strengthen existing collaborations as well as develop synergy in areas of mutual interest, for the benefit of South Africa and the Continent.

The signing of the MoU comes at a significant time as UNIVEN celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year. ‘The celebration will be characterised by embracing past achievements, recognising current success stories, and helping to shape the future’ UNIVEN.

As part of this momentous occasion, forthcoming implementation plans will foresee the ICGEB and UNIVEN strengthening common actions in strategic areas including capacity building, cooperation in research areas of joint scientific interest and expertise including agricultural biotechnology and health sciences, training workshops and meetings, as well as community outreach and education in STEM.
