ICGEB Cape Town receives Grant from the Standards and Trade Facility (STDF) – Overcoming barriers to trade

ICGEB Cape Town receives a Project Preparation Grant (PPG) from the Standards and Trade Facility (STDF) – Overcoming barriers to trade through regulatory harmonisation and related research on biopesticides in the SADC region.

The PPG award, received by the Biopesticides Group at ICGEB Cape Town from the STDF, will focus on developing a proposal for a regional project to work towards a coordinated framework to support the inclusion of biopesticides as part of IPM programmes within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

The resulting project is, inter alia, expected to build an innovative and collaborative approach to promote the use of biopesticides, especially for late season pests in key export crops in the SADC region, thereby overcoming pesticide residues as barriers to trade.

ICGEB Cape Town will host the STDF Grant Planning Meeting from 14th-15th
of October 2019. The meeting will bring together biopesticide registrants, regulators, researchers, policy makers, the private sector, and various international partners to put together ideas that would go into the project proposal.

We look forward to welcoming delegates from Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, U.R. Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo, USA and South Africa.

ICGEB greatly appreciates the support from the STDF.
