ICGEB Biopesticides Group coordinates Integrated Pest Management project – a Euphresco network initiative

ICGEB Cape Town’s Biopesticides Group is coordinating a multinational project, an initiative of the Euphresco network, focusing on phytosanitary research and Integrated Pest Management.

The ICGEB Biopesticides Group hosted a virtual inaugural meeting, on the 19th of May 2022, for the Euphresco network for phytosanitary research coordination and funding project entitled “Identifying integrated pest management (IPM) measures for given crop/pest combinations to improve plant health and decrease dependency on chemical pesticides”.

The purpose of the meeting included introducing the project partners to one another, as well as discussing the specific objectives and related activities for the 2-year project that runs from May 2022 – June 2024.

‘‘This project will promote cost-effective Integrated Pest Management measures to help reduce dependence on chemical pest control by growers at field level. This would, inter alia, enable farmers to reduce chemical residue levels in harvested produce and, hence, enhance compliance with Maximum Residue Limits set by various national and international authorities’ – Dr. Dennis Ndolo, ICGEB Biopesticides Group Leader.

Ms. Karen Hope (Programme Specialist: ICGEB Biopesticides Group) serves as the coordinator of the project, which includes partners from 18 research institutions across 15 countries, including:  Austria, Bulgaria, Egypt, Finland, France, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, Tunisia and Turkey.
