ICGEB at the World Local Production Forum for WHO

At the WLFP Forum in June 2021, Dr. Lawrence Banks, ICGEB Director-General spoke on unlocking global manufacturing potential through licensing and technology transfer.

The World Local Production Forum: Enhancing access to medicines and other health technologies (WLPF), as per the Report “brings the global community – foremost government leaders, industry associations, technology experts and innovators, civil society, the international community, and other stakeholders – together under the auspices of WHO to shape the development of local production and highlight the challenges and opportunities for the sector for public health impact”.

ICGEB’s Director-General joined Panellists from the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations, Diagnostics Development Hub A*STAR, Singapore, Cipla Quality Chemical Industries, Uganda, and the World Trade Organization to deliver a key message on sharing of intellectual property and effective technology transfer, essential to facilitate rapid scale-up production capacity.

Another key message of the panel affirms that an enabling environment for technology transfer includes good governance, a skilled workforce, access to market information and viable national/regional markets.
