ICGEB: a strong presence at the 2022 Bio Africa Convention from the 27th – 31st of August 2022, with the theme Africa Resilient: Life Sciences Innovation for Achieving Health and Food Security.
The goal of the Convention is the advancement of biotechnology development in Africa, providing an opportunity for dialogue and discussion with stakeholders in the global biotechnology industry.
The Programme, with various thematic tracks, offered insightful sessions and discussions on Healthcare innovation in the age of Pandemics, Funding, Finance & Investments & Market Access, Food Security (AgriBio), Indigenous Knowledge based Bio-Innovations, Entrepreneurship, Manufacturing and Industrialisation, Global North and South Collaborations and Partnerships.
The ICGEB delegation, led by Director-General Dr. Lawrence Banks included Component Directors Dr. Luiz Zerbini and Dr. Dinakar Salunke – representing ICGEB New Delhi’s first participation in the popular science event “Science & the City”. Dr. Vittorio Venturi, Scientific Coordinator and Group Leader of the Bacteriology lab in Trieste was also present, together with researchers from the three ICGEB Components.
ICGEB participation focused on South-South cooperation, Biofuels, Genomics, and the Africa COVID Diagnostics project. ICGEB also ran a series of Biotechnology Workshops at the BIO Africa Academy, with Dr. Wendy Craig, Dr Vittorio Venturi and Dr. Dennis Ndolo facilitating workshops on The Role of Science in Biosafety Decision-Making and Food security and sustainable agriculture, with Dr. Shams Yazdani’s participation set to lead to collaboration with Institutes in Africa on Biofuels.
