Placental Features Linked to Transposable Element Expression in Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer
Host: G. Del Sal
Abstract
The incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer (EO-CRC) is increasing worldwide. Whether EO-CRC represents a biologically distinct entity from standard-onset colorectal cancer (SO-CRC) remains unclear.
Using an integrated multi-omics approach, we identified a previously unrecognized placental-like transcriptional program accompanied by aberrant activation of the endogenous retrovirus HERVH in EO-CRC. These findings provide a potential explanation for the aggressive clinical behavior of EO-CRC and highlight new opportunities for biologically guided therapeutic strategies.
