Flow Cytometry has established as a critical technology for academic research and for the clinic. Approaching this technique requires understanding of the basic principles and expertise to set up, perform and analyze experiments to obtain reliable results. This newly launched ICGEB course aims to provide scientists with basic knowledge and hands-on experience to begin or improve their skills on flow-cytometry experiments, together with an overview of the most advanced techniques and biological questions that can be addressed using flow cytometry. Forum for discussion of practical issues and experimental design will be an integral part of the course to ensure immediate benefit for participants.

  • Basic principle of flow cytometry, sample preparation and analysis
  • Immunophenotyping of cells in normal and pathological conditions in preclinical models and in the clinic
  • Single cell sorting and downstream applications
  • Advanced quantitative flow cytometry and functional analysis

Registration

Participants

Students and early-stage researchers.

Participation is subject to selection. Only a limited number of participants (20) are admitted to this Course to allow comfortable access to the instruments.
Other participants may be admitted to attend only the Theoretical Sessions held in the mornings.

Selection will be based on applicants’ CV and motivation letter, with attention to geographical and gender balance.
Preference will be given to junior applicants who would most benefit from gaining hands-on experience for their career.

Prior basic working knowledge is of advantage, but not strictly a must.

Registration Fees

Selected participants will be notified and will need to finalise their registration with payment of the relevant registration fee.

Students
€100 (Theoretical Sessions only: €50)
Postdocs and Academics
€200 (Theoretical Sessions only: €100)

The registration fee includes:
– coffee breaks
– lunches 
– certificate of attendance
– access to the instruments for hands-on experience

Cancellations

Cancellations must be notified to the Course Secretariat in writing no later than 19 April 2019 (midday Trieste time) and will be subject to a handling fee of Euro 50.

Financial Assistance

Nationals of ICGEB Member States are eligible to apply for an ICGEB grant (covering registration fee, twin-share accommodation, and local hospitality) for the duration of the Meeting; travel is not funded.

Closing date for receipt of applications at ICGEB Trieste is 13th December 2018 (midday Trieste time).

Participants will have an opportunity to interact during the closing session. Ample space will be dedicated to Q&A, discussion of proposals and future projects, expert advice.
