Dhiraj Kumar, ICGEB New Delhi, has received the 2019 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award for Medical Sciences.
Group Leader of the Cellular Immunology lab at ICGEB New Delhi, Dhiraj Kumar, has received a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award, the highest multidisciplinary science awards in India, for his achievements in the Medical Sciences.
The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, announced the awards for outstanding contributions in science and technology, on the occasion of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Foundation Day, 26 September 2019. Awards will be presented by the Prime Minister of India during a ceremony on National Science Day, next year.
Associated with ICGEB New Delhi since 2002, Dhiraj Kumar has been heading the Cellular Immunology Group since 2010. His scientific activity looks at understanding the host-pathogen interaction in case of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, innate immune response and inflammation. He utilises high throughput approaches and cutting-edge experimentation coupled with integrative analytical strategies.
