ICGEB awards projects considered as the best grants by an international review Committee each year.
ICGEB has been providing funding opportunities through its Grants programme for over 30 years, making a strong impact, with almost 700 projects receiving seed funding in 60 countries since 1988.
CRP grants stimulate collaborative research, promote training of young scientists, and facilitate the creation of research facilities in Member States. In addition, annual prizes are awarded to projects that best combine high-quality research addressing scientific problems of particular relevance with an excellent training component and interaction with other countries.
ICGEB CRP Grants remain one of the Organisation’s most popular programmes, enjoying worldwide recognition among awardee scientists, many of whom are now taking their work from the laboratory to the market.
This is a dedicated source of funding aimed at financing projects that address original scientific problems of relevance for the host country and of regional interest. The programme supports research projects in basic science, human healthcare, industrial and agricultural biotechnology, and bioenergy, with a call for applications launched yearly. The next peer-review round is expected to take place in summer 2026.
Important elements of successful applications are: i) a clear and detailed explanation of the need and value of proposed international collaborations; ii) training of young scientists; iii) feasibility of the proposed project within the designated timeframe and budget.
ICGEB will seek expert reviewers from amongst its alumni body to assist in the review process of the projects. Participation is requested voluntarily, and certificates of participation will be provided upon request.

Since 2020, annual CRP prizes have been awarded to the top two projects completed by CRP grantees, spanning laboratories from Latin America, Europe, and Africa.
