The ICGEB aims at strengthening the research capability of its Members through a comprehensive training programme and approach to promoting biotechnology internationally. The active participation of ICGEB Member States nationals in the ICGEB Meetings and Courses is therefore highly encouraged. This theoretical/practical course provides an integrated approach, combining expertise from engineering production and evaluation of biosurfactant as substitute to chemical surfactants. The aim of this course is discuss the uses of new technologies and products, and its applications on sustainable development of Latin America.
Topics
Current situation on the production of microbial biosurfactants in Latin America and expected development. Bioprospecting of new microbial isolates as potential source of biosurfactants. Biosurfactants characterization and production: techniques. Valorization a concept for economical biosurfactant production: an overview. Biosurfactants as biosanitizer in the food industry. Biosurfactants as emulsifying agents for bioactive compounds transport. Biosurfactants as biopesticides in agriculture.
Participants
Researchers involved in the field of production, characterization and evaluation of biosurfactants. Participants are expected to give a short oral presentation about their research. Preference will be given to applicants from developing countries.
Funding
No fee is charged to attend this Course. Participants are expected to cover their own travel and living costs. A limited number of grants, covering accommodation (twin share) and local hospitality for the duration of the Course, are available to a selected number of nationals of ICGEB Member States
