Repeat expansion diseases, DNA repair, & therapeutics
Host: E. Buratti
There are at least 70 diseases caused by gene-specific tandem repeat expansions. These diseases show varying ages of disease onset and varying rates of disease, progression, both of which are regulated by postnatal somatic repeat expansions in brains.
Understanding the mechanism by these ongoing repeat expansions occur will inform how one might therapeutically target these so as to delay onset, and or slow disease progression. Focus will be upon progress to date.
