Celebrating Africa Youth Day

On the occasion of Africa Youth Day, 16 June 2021, we are pleased to announce the results of the recent ICGEB Alumni Girls in STEM campaign.

To raise awareness for gender parity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), on the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science, ICGEB launched the Alumni Girls in STEM campaign.

Today, on Africa Youth Day, we are pleased to announce the results of that campaign, which will enable ICGEB to hold three “Discover Science through the lens of the Foldscope” workshops for as many classes from schools in Cape Town.

This is a great result that goes toward supporting the ongoing outreach activities at ICGEB South Africa, which included participation in the AfricaBio STEAM CAMP in April 2021, through the donation of Foldscopes.

ICGEB Outreach activities promote educational initiatives and represent an exciting opportunity to interact with people all over the world in state-of-the-art scientific environments.

Youth, essential to nurturing a brighter and more equitable future, constitutes the backbone of the ICGEB’s training programmes that have been operating for over three decades.

We work with our Alumni to support initiatives for youth and quality education for all, to develop skills and make higher education possible, in line with SDG4 of the UN Agenda2030 – Sustainable Development Goals.
