Calls reopened: ICGEB Special Programme with South African Historically Disadvantaged Institutions (HDIs)

The ICGEB and the South African Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) have partnered in a Special Programme to develop and support capacity development in South African Historically Disadvantaged Institutions* (HDIs). Thanks to the support of DSI, the following re-opened Programme calls and opportunities are available for eligible South African citizens and/or South African permanent residence holders from eligible HDIs:

  • Call for Meetings and Courses: The ICGEB invites proposals from Principal Investigators in South African HDIs to run joint scientific events, workshops and practical training courses in the Life Sciences, human healthcare, industrial and agricultural biotechnology and the bio-economy, co-organised with ICGEB researchers.
    There is also an additional funding opportunity for researchers and students from HDIs to apply for funding to attend the 2023 ICGEB Meetings and Courses in Africa, as well as a limited number in Trieste, Italy and New Delhi, India.
  • Call for Junior and Senior Fellowship Schemes: The ICGEB invites applications from highly motivated scientists from HDIs for short-term Fellowships in Life Sciences, human healthcare, industrial and agricultural biotechnology and the bio-economy wishing to pursue research in a world-class scientific environment.

*Eligible HDIs: University of Fort Hare, University of Limpopo, University of Venda, Walter Sisulu University, University of the Western Cape, University of Zululand, Mangosuthu University of Technology, and Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University
