An additional five events have been scheduled to take place at ICGEB New Delhi in 2020, thanks to funding provided by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

The Workshops are intended to cover state-of-the-art technologies and will have a large practical component. Each workshop is organised by ICGEB Group Leaders.

A total number of 30 participants per course is expected, with provisions for 15 participants from ICGEB Member States and 15 from within India. The venue for all the Workshops will be ICGEB, New Delhi Component.

Dr. Dinakar Salunke, Director ICGEB New Delhi writes on Expanding the short-term, hands-on training activities at ICGEB

Over more than thirty years of ICGEB’s existence, a few of the highlights that make ICGEB what it is today are engagement in supporting the member countries to create an environment that fosters highest scientific standards and be a place for outstanding basic research with a footprint that is empowering new paths of discovery and translation. The Meetings and Courses programme of ICGEB has become a cornerstone of its academic activities and a major highlight for researchers in the field. ICGEB aims to foster a new generation of global scientists by helping them to advance their research, promote their international reputations and ensure their mobility. These training activities enjoy an exceptional reputation throughout the world. Each of the ICGEB Components are equipped to meet the requirements of International training activities with the state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities for cutting-edge multidisciplinary research in frontier areas.

ICGEB conducts around 20-25 training activities every year, out of which 3-4 are conducted at the New Delhi Component. To manage the growing demand among the Member countries, ICGEB has been exploring expansion of the hands-on training capacity. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India has come forward to support this expansion and has separately funded 12 hands-on workshops initially for over two years at the New Delhi Component of the Centre. ICGEB with the support of DBT is, therefore, bringing forth a world-class capacity building programme that will engage scientists from across the world together and share the best practices and cutting-edge ideas and technologies. The workshops are open to all participants from Member Countries. The Workshops will feature some of the highly respected National/Internationally renowned speakers, academicians and researchers covering hands-on sessions in specific themes. This endeavour will result in the growth and development of technically and scientifically competent human networks that will use the latest advances and will significantly impact the scientific and social development of the Member Countries.
