The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), established in 1987, is an international, intergovernmental organization conceived as a Centre of excellence for research and training with special regard to the needs of the developing world. The Centre conducts innovative research in life sciences and strengthens the research capability of its over 60 Member States through training, funding programs and advisory services. Located in Trieste (Italy), New Delhi (India) and Cape Town (South Africa), and in collaboration with over 40 Affiliated Centres worldwide, the three ICGEB Components provide a scientific and educational environment of the highest international standards.

ICGEB TRIESTE, ITALY

LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

The incumbent will handle matters involving complex issues of labor, administrative and, as appropriate, international law. He/she reports directly to the Director-General on matters pertaining to overall policy and strategic issues of the Centre, including legal affairs, accounts, finance, procurement, funding, management of human resources, and other relevant administrative matters.

The post is full-time. A one year contract will be offered for the first term, followed by a 5-year contract, renewal subject to performance, with a competitive salary under the United Nations Professional Salary Scale (Level P4-P5) depending on experience and qualifications. The position includes attractive Health care benefits and participation in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund.

The Director of ICGEB Cape Town will be of international scientific standing and possess academic excellence, institutional management expertise, familiarity with Africa’s biotechnology context, a proven capacity to network across the African stakeholder community and to raise additional funds. An active, well-funded, personal research programme pursued in one of the focus areas of the ICGEB is also essential. 

The post is full-time and will be offered as a 3-year contract, renewable subject to performance, and will foresee an attractive salary package within the United Nations Common System at a level commensurate with the incumbent’s qualifications and experience, including participation in an international pension fund and health insurance.

The Director of ICGEB New Delhi will be of international scientific standing and possess academic excellence, institutional management expertise, familiarity with India’s biotechnology context, a proven capacity to network across the international stakeholder community and to raise additional funds. An active, well-funded, personal research programme pursued in one of the focus areas of the ICGEB is also essential. The incumbent will establish effective interactions with governments of ICGEB Member States, international institutions and the scientific community worldwide, while demonstrating experience in translating scientific research into innovation and commercialisation.
