LIVING IN TRIESTE
An approximate breakdown of monthly living expenses in Trieste is provided below for your reference:
Euro 300 - 600: accommodation: in general a small bachelor flat (or a larger one for two or more sharing) or a room in a private house can be found in the centre of Trieste. It is, however, difficult to estimate an average monthly rent as it depends on the accommodation you require and also the availability at the time of your arrival.
A tentative estimate could be Euro 450 upwards for a single apartment; Euro 300 for a flat share, or Euro 350 for a room in a private house. Electricity/gas charges (for central heating and hot water) and general service charges, if the flat is in an apartment block, are extra.
Upon signing a rental contract for an apartment, one month’s rent is paid in advance and a deposit is requested as a guarantee (usually the equivalent of one or two month’s rent), which is returned to you when you leave the flat, provided it is in good condition upon your departure.
Euro 400 - 450: food & daily expenses; this would include a hot lunch in the canteen in the AREA Science Park wherein ICGEB has its premises;
Approx. Euro 35: the local bus ticket (valid for one month) which covers the centre of Trieste and which also includes the journey to and from ICGEB.
