Synthetic Biology and Biofuel Lab - ICGEB New Delhi

Metabolic engineering, cellulolytic enzymes and biofuels - the focus of the new Group operating at ICGEB New Delhi from 2011

Syed Shams Yazdani is heading the recently established Synthetic Biology and Biofuel Group focusing on the discovery and design of novel enzymes, enzyme systems and engineering bacteria to produce biofuels.

Current research also involves a five-year project in collaboration with the Insitutute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Matunga on generating algal biofuels on a large scale and at reduced production costs.

Previous collaboration by the Group at the Rice University, Houston TX, was widely reported concerning a bacterium that ferments glycerin and produces ethanol.
