AuthorAid:providing help with scientific publications

is a global network that provides supportmentoringresources and training for researchers in developing countries. A UK charity helping researchers in developing countries (many of which are ICGEB Members) communicate their science, they also run meetings on science communication, grant and paper writing.

ICGEB has established collaboration with AuthorAid, who are happy to receive applications for travel grants from students wanting to attend ICGEB meetings. They have linked ICGEB podcasts on their resources page, and publicise ICGEB Meetings and Courses.

AuthorAid also have an online mentoring system, with the idea to match early career researchers from a developing country with a mentor to support them at any stage of writing up or communicating their research. Potential mentors register on the website and they aim to select people who are senior researchers with good experience in publishing.

People write in requesting help and, if the mentors expertise is appropriate, a formal agreement is entered into to specifically help that individual. A way to provide assistance to scientists in the developing world that doesn't cost anything other than time.
