Funding awarded from the ALS Agency for Research

The Molecular Pathology Group at ICGEB receives Euro 250,000 funding from AriSLA

Among the winners of the 2012 Research competition of the Agency for Research on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis AriSLA, the Molecular Pathology group at ICGEB has received the maximum level of funding possible.

The project entitled "TARMA - TDP-43-altared RNA metabolism in als", conducted by the Group of Prof. Francisco Baralle, ICGEB Trieste and by Dr. Antonia Ratti, Department of Neuroscience, Italian Institute for Auxology, Milan, aims to investigate the process of aggregation of the TDP-43 protein involved in both the familiar and sporadic forms of ALS, as well as to identify potential exogenous molecules able to modulate this phenomenon.

The possibility to correlate the aggregational process of this protein with the illness might prove useful for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes.
