DST Women in Science Fellowship awarded to ICGEB MSc student

At the DST South African Women in Science Awards, hosted in Pretoria on 24 August 2012, Akhona Vava, of the Cancer Genomics lab is awarded a fellowship

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Republic of South Africa, hosted the South African Women in Science Awards (WISA) in Pretoria on 24 August 2012. 

Amongst the awardees in the category for DST Fellowships was Akhona Vava, who is currently studying towards a MSc in Medicine, specialising in medical biochemistry, in the Cancer Genomics lab of Dr. Zerbini at ICGEB Cape Town, in collaboration with the University of Cape Town Medical Biochemistry Division.

Awards in this category go to six Master's and six PhD students currently involved in full-time study or research leading to a masters or doctoral degree. WISA winners are profiled as role models for younger scientists and researchers, and this particular award recognises outstanding ability and potential in research, enhances research experience and output and encourages more young women to complete research degrees. Congratulations Akhona!!
