AXA Research Fund awards ICGEB postdoc

ICGEB Postdoc, Giulia Bortolussi, receives prestigious AXA Fellowship

The AXA Research Fund was created to encourage scientific research to contribute to understanding and preventing environmental, life, and socio-economic risks. 

Recipient of a prestigious AXA Fellowship, Dr. Giulia Bortolussi will carry out her postdoctoral activity in the Mouse Molecular Genetics laboratory in Trieste, where the main focus of research is the function of genes and proteins related to human diseases.

The overall aim of her project, which studies the mechanisms by which bilirubin causes damage in the brain, using adenoviruses, is the identification of the in vivo cell-players in the onset of bilirubin neurological damage that will prove fundamental in developing specific therapies based on drug administration or gene therapy.

To date, AXA has committed Euro 76 million to 289 research projects supported in 24 countries, covering 47 different nationalities.
