ICGEB offers postgraduate studies with the aim of obtaining the “Doctor Philosophiae” (PhD) degree in the life sciences that can be awarded by a number of Academic Institutions of International standing.
An additional awarding body for the PhD studies is the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), Trieste, Italy, in the context of the recently launched JuMBO PhD Programme, also involving the Universities of Trieste and Udine.
The structure of the three-year PhD course includes intensive laboratory research activities, participation in seminars and communication training during Journal Club sessions, symposia and international meetings.
PhD programme commencement dates:
Trieste, ITALY - 1 October
New Delhi, INDIA - 1 August
Cape Town, SOUTH AFRICA - 1 January
Research activities are held in English.
2. Postdoctoral fellowships
Scientists may apply for a postdoctoral fellowship to be carried out at one of the Components. Successful candidates may be eligible for follow-up funding for their research upon their return to the home institute through the Return Grant Programme.
Research activities are held in English and may be undertaken at the ICGEB laboratories located in Trieste and Monterotondo (Italy), New Delhi (India) and Cape Town (South Africa).
3. Flexible fellowships
Short-term fellowships will be awarded only for on-going collaborative research between scientists from ICGEB Member States and the research groups at the ICGEB laboratories in Italy, India and South Africa.
Sandwich PhD fellowships are open to students carrying out a PhD project in their own country that falls within the research fields of an ICGEB Group.
