Fellowships - Impact

The Arturo Falaschi ICGEB fellowship programmes offer high profile, multidisciplinary training and cover a range of topics in genetic engineering and biotechnology. The PhD fellowship programme provides graduate students with all the necessary means to understand a scientific investigation in the field of life sciences, develop independent thought and critical view, personal responsibility and decision making skills. Postdoctoral fellows are trained for an average of two years, during which they actively participate in the research projects of the ICGEB Components.

Since 1989, almost 1,000 awards at PhD and postdoctoral levels have been granted to young scientists from over 65 ICGEB Member States and Signatory Countries (Fig. 1-3). In the context of the 2016 Arturo Falaschi ICGEB fellowship programme, out of the 157 applications received, 42 fellowships have been awarded to students and young scientists from 28 different countries.

To date, over 360 students have completed their PhD studies at ICGEB and moved on to prestigious institutions at home or abroad as postdoctoral fellows or staff members. Most of these completed their degree with first author publications in high impact international peer review journals, which is in itself the best indication of the quality of the PhD Programme.
